Summer Fun

With the summer coming up and a lot of us looking to minimise spending, it’s worth looking at some fun activities that will keep costs to a minimum. Here are some ideas!

  • Heritage Sites: Heritage Sites are a fabulous way to familiarise yourself with local history. What’s even better is that for a mere €55 per year you can purchase a heritage family pass that will get you into any of the sites around the country! If you are planning a camping trip, this would be a great idea to make the days more interesting.
  • Picnics: Picnics are great fun for the whole family. Pick a spot ( perhaps a Heritage site?) that has something for everyone such as Powerscourt, pack a lunch and head off. To make things even tastier, why not bring the BBQ?
  • Museums: Most state owned museums in Ireland have free admission. What better way to teach the children about art or history, yet still have a fantastic day out?
  • Street Festivals: There are many wonderful festivals around the country during the summer. Find one near you and head out for the day. Of particular note are the Ballina Street Festival and the Tullamore Phoenix Festival. With Tullamore being just an hour or so from Dublin with the new road, it might be a fun day out for you Dubliners!
  • Go to the seaside - Take advantage of our island and head to the coast for the day. Pack that picnic, some sun cream (if needed!) and off you go!
  • Visit our capital - Here is a list of 10 free things to do in Dublin.

What are your tips for enjoying the summer or days off when money is tight?
