Frugal Brides

Runaway bride

We mentioned a list of tips for the Frugal Bride in a previous post but up until my best friend announced her engagement recently I would have glossed over that without clicking. I always thought that people were exagerating the cost of weddings in Ireland, but I soon came to realise that this is not the case. My friend happened to mentioned to me that wedding invitation stationery can cost anything up to and beyond €4.50 per invitation so if you’re having 100+ guests that’s a lot of money for a piece of card that will find it’s way into most people’s recycling bin. At the same time I was already thinking about what kind of wedding gift to give the couple, I knew they probably wouldn’t go down the registry route and I didn’t want to give them cash (so impersonal) but I also didn’t want to spend a lot of money on a present that they might not even like. So I offered my services instead. I love to make greeting cards so after a little research online I guestimated that I could make the invitations for about €1.50 - €2.00 per card so I offered to do this for her as my gift. I’m currently checking out the possibilities on DIY weddings as they have a range of products available for the bride (or bride’s friend) who want’s to make her own.

For example this one is €1.60 per invitation and it includes all the papers, cards and ribbons plus a template for you to do up the insert. The only additional things you need are a cutting tool and glue (which any crafter will have anyway).

This is a frugal solution for both the gift giver and the recipient. My friend will get free invitations and I will know that I haven’t wasted money on a Kitchen gadget or Waterford Crystal lamp that they will hate!

  2. [...] I mentioned the new blog on the block Frugal Ireland in a previous post but since I mentioned it, I’ve been invited to be a contributor. It’s strange posting onto a different blog, it’s a bit outside the comfort zone as I’m being more cautious of how I say things but it’s great fun and I’m delighted to be a part of it!!  My first post is here.
